One Feature for a Better MyBlogLog
Mybloglog (MBL) is continually getting better and better everyday. The team is working hard and they are always open to new ideas from their 200,000+ users. Previously, they have changed the way communities looked and added new features alongside. Removing the ability to leave messages on community pages was a good idea and the RSS feeds made a great addition to the page but the mass messaging feature was not implemented correctly until they added the opt-out option.More recently, they also improved the search feature by including tags in the results. Now all these new features are nice and great but MBL is huge now. This makes it difficult to find relevant blogs we would be interested to read. Althought I could have made this suggestion on the Suggestion Board but I wanted to illustrate my idea and how it might work out.
Ever since MBL introduced the tags feature I thought tag clouds could be one way to lead the users to blogs they are looking for. They are already doing it on Top 50 communities on the community page but why not add it to members page as well. This feature would make tags more useful and examples from other sites could be given as an example. Take a look at the way Technorati uses tag clouds for posts:

Flickr does the same for tags on photos:

I'm sure other examples could be given from other websites but don't you think the following would be more useful on the members page instead of the current A to Z names directory?

Thanks to Nate Whitehill for the cool looking MyBlogLog logo.

Nice MBL badge... ;)
I like the tag feature, and don't mind the community wide messages I receive too much. I have yet to send one myself.
I also like the Twitter update at the top.
Maybe making an API like facebook and twitter would be a good thing. Allowing members to make their own widgets and such is a great way to increase membership.
True. They should release an API sometime.
Personally, I find MBL less and less useful and rarely even log in anymore. I've removed the widget from one of my blogs. The mass message thing is a disaster and I steadily remove members.
The message option is a nice way for webmasters to send each other messages, but when the members use it to spam their new blogs, send daily announcements and beg people to Digg their posts, the important messages get lost in the shuffle.
Hammer, I am with you, after a couple of months of intense use a while back, I have found no compelling reason to log back again.
Ilker: are you still using it? does it work for you?
The new community message feature allowed a person who wasn't happy about my request to be removed from her MBL community and site blogroll to spam-solicit people to leave my community. More than once.
Otherwise, I don't have a whole lot of complaints about MBL. I like it, actually.

Alvaro, at the moment I only use it to receive messages from my contacts in MyBlogLog.
RANT:
I'm also not happy with the new updated team since they are not as friendly as the original MBL team when they started. I've contacted them to ask why my tag in Top 50 communities is not the size it should be and there is no response. Back when Scott was in the team, he used to reply ALL my messages, no matter how small or unimportant he feels about the question/comment. What the new team doesn't realize (and I don't blame them) is that I was one of the fans of MBL who helped improve it by constantly giving feedback and recommendations. What's more, I did all these without even asking for anything back other than keeping MBL alive and strong. Now, not only I don't get a response, but I'm also being the "bad one" for trying to help them out.

I'm seriously thinking of making one final mass message to all my contacts saying they could reach me at my email address and that I would not be logging in to MBL anymore.
That would be a shame if you bailed on MBL, though I can see your frustration. Hopefully, they'll respond to this post.
